Nicotine Replacement Therapies
There are lots of different NRT products around which all work by helping you to manage withdrawal symptoms. NRT does not go into your body the same way as nicotine from a cigarette so it is much less addictive and does not cause cancer.
The good news is that NRT is also available on prescription. It is important to always follow the instructions and ask your GP, pharmacist or adviser if there is anything you want to know. If you want to go it alone you can also buy NRT over the counter in pharmacies, supermarkets and shops.
Champix
Champix is a new drug which helps people stop smoking by reducing withdrawal symptoms and the urge you get to start again. It is only available to those attending Suffolk Stop Smoking services. Although it will make stopping easier it is not a quick fix or magic cure. Stopping smoking still requires determination and willpower.
There are some side effects including nausea, vomiting, sleeplessness and strange dreams. As with all drug treatments some people get side effects whilst others don’t.
